The HairDirections Education

Method & Milady Standard Text

This program is taught using the HairDirections Education Method -  a powerful system that focuses on providing students with the tools and knowledge that they will need to be successful.

All of our students receive a copy of the world-renowned Milady’s Standard Textbook of Cosmetology. Milady has been an industry leader in cosmetology texts for over 80 years, helping to prepare over 10 million students for their career in the industry. The Milady Standard has excellent technical content and beautiful imagery.

Curriculum Summary

This is a comprehensive program that enables students to learn all three of the major areas in the industry, including: (1) hair services, (2) spa services (also known as esthetician services) and (3) nail services.

The Four Seasons Electives Program

Our school has developed the Four Seasons Electives Program which enables you to maximize your educational experience, tailored to your specific interests and career goals. Students have the option of selecting from the following 12 Cosmetology Electives:

(1) Advanced Haircolor – Enhance your haircolor skills with this Elective, including the blending of science and art to bring out your creative side and produce beautiful haircolor. You will learn from someone who is an expert in the formulation and application of haircolor, and has been a professional educator for two of the largest color distributors in the word.

(2) Makeup Artistry - This elective allows students to explore the field of Makeup Artistry.  Learn everything from photography & theatrical make-up, applying artificial lashes, day-to-night techniques, covering scarring and birthmarks, and even some fun costume make-up.  Students will use cosmetics favored by some of the biggest names in the Makeup Artistry that have been used on celebrities such as Teri Hatcher, Paula Abdul, and Cindy Crawford.

(3) Advanced Spa Services – Learn about more advanced Esthetician services that maximize the skin’s health and beauty (advanced body wraps and facials, anti-aging, detoxification, diminish lines, cellulite loss, etc.).

(4) Nail Artistry – Produce beautiful nail art using freehand or airbrush techniques.  You can also expand your skills and experience with acrylics, sculptures, wraps, & more.

(5) Hair Extensions II – All of our students receive an introduction to Hair Extensions (Hair Extensions I).  This great Elective will expand your skills & techniques for planning and placing hair extensions.

(6) Runway/Platform Artistry – Learn the avant-garde styles seen on the runway, including extreme styling, exaggerated colors, and completely wild haircuts that will challenge even the most creative stylists.

(7) Salon Ownership 101 - You will have the rare opportunity of learning from a successful salon owner who has been in business for nearly a decade.  Plan your own salon:  floor plan, service menu, employee handbook, business planning, and budgeting.  This is a great introductory Elective for those interested in managing or owning a salon.

(10) Salon Internship (up to 50 hours for those who qualify) – Jump start your career by working in another salon before you graduate.

(11) Leadership Training and Communication Skills – Learn to get your message across & build your leadership skills.

(12) Career Options and Planning – Explore careers in the cosmetology industry, job shadow, practice interviewing, receive help finding your first job.  This is a useful Elective for those who want to learn more about their opportunities after they graduate, and plan their career.

Approximately 100 to 200 hours of electives may be selected, and they count towards the total hours of instruction required to graduate.  There is no additional charge for participating in the Electives Program.
